Wonder if you might have any suggestions for hotel-type accommodation for a normal-sized, um, actually what some call a "big" family. We have 6 kids, and need a place to overnight in Memphis TN.
So far the only places I've found have told us we have about two "too many" kids. We could either rent a second room, or just sneak 'em in, but the first is too expensive and we'd rather not do the latter.
Thanks!

You really only have about three options, and you'll have to do some calling around for them:
1. Rent two rooms at a lower cost motel. Most have options for ajoining rooms, and some can be fairly affordable.
2. Rent a suite that accommodates more people - this will be very pricey.
3. Find a rental appartment - some areas offer an apartment that is an alternative to a hotel, rents furnished and with linens, by the day or week.
Otherwise you are left with renting an RV, or camping.
We rented an apartment at the beach one year for about a week, with my mom, my husband and I and our then two children, and my sister, her husband, and their two. It had three rooms, so it worked out nicely with a family in each room.
We also used a 35 ft RV for about three months, with five of our kids and my husband and I living in it. We had to keep things put away, space was very limited, but it worked.
Best wishes,

We've had good luck with Amerisuites, but I don't know if there are any near Memphis. Can fit 6 kids and 2 adults in regular suite, but not if the kids are teens.

Have you looked at Hostels? They are designed for young adults, but with the dormatory style rooms can be used by large families who book entire rooms. Most are safe and usually cheaper then getting two hotel rooms, but not always. When traveling we frequently have to get two rooms and know all of the Motel 6's between our house and my mother-in-laws. But, when vacationing in San Francisco, a hostel was the most reasonable place to stay and with lockable rooms and lockers we were safe and secure and right in the midst of the action.
