Surviving 2007/09/07 15:25
It had been three weeks since we've seen a paycheck, and it was likely to be even more before we saw one. We got down to the bare cupboards - ran out of flour, and everything fresh except what the garden was producing (enough to supplement, not enough to live on). We had ingredients, but nothing you could really make a meal from - I mean, mustard, eggs, and broccoli don't exactly combine well.

It has been a hard summer. We're operating our own business now, so income is unpredictable. Not enough to build a reserve to sail us over the dry spots. Somehow though, the kids are eating, the mortgage is paid, and nothing has been shut off. I haven't quite figured out how it all happened, because the amount of money we brought in was nowhere near the amount of bills we paid with it! Love those little miracles that make it go.

Laura,

I hope things have gotten smoothed out for you. I am also glad for those miracles when they happen.

Yes, things are looking up. We have antelope. I'd rather be thankful for elk than antelope, but we got good ones this year (sometimes they taste really nasty, sometimes they are good). And business is picking up rather nicely. Thanks for the well-wishes.

I've never had antelope or elk but my dad hunts so we enjoy deer meat. My mom detests it so I made chili once with deer meat and she never had a clue(aren't I mean? lol) I'm always thankful for that supplement to our meat budget!

I pray things are still looking up and business is getting more steady. I LOVE LOVE LOVE those awesome miracles!
