Adoption

Adoption brings its own set of challenges. Integrating a new child into the home isn't an easy thing, and it takes time, patience, and a little background into what is normal and what is not, for an adopted child, not for a birth child!

Many parents are unprepared for the difficulty of the first year. Many are unprepared for the fact that with an older child, it may not even out even after the first year. Adopted children often come with baggage, and it can take years to help them unload it.  Even when a parent feels they ARE prepared, nothing can really prepare them for the reality of living it as opposed to studying and understanding it.

It is also rewarding. And there are more happy endings than sad ones. Sometimes the best comfort is the voice of experience - someone who can say, "I've been there - it does get better."

Please contribute your wisdom here if you have adopted and learned from it. If you need to talk to someone, check out the forums, and talk to the people there.
