Homeschooling |

As difficult as homeschooling can be, a surprising number of large families do choose this option for education. Suggestions on organization, homeschooling a wide age range, keeping the little ones occupied, and reducing the work load. I have a set of rules about homeschool. These are just things that help me to overcome my own limitations, and to work with my kids, so they won't be appropriate for other families, I just record them here so anyone with similar issues can know that they are not alone! 1. Don't make more work than you have to. This is number one. If you make it too complex, you'll generally not follow through. Focus on what is important, and keep it simple. 2. Do it different. If you are going to bring the school home, there is no point in homeschooling. Homeschooling gives you the option of finding unique ways to address the educational needs of your children. Exercise that freedom and enjoy it! 4. Work then play. We schedule the hardest subjects first, and no one gets fun time till schoolwork is done. With little kids, it has to be broken up, but ours are all old enough to work straight through their schoolwork and then go on to their more fun projects. Every child has a unique way of learning. Every family has to find their own way, and find what works best for them. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/carolinametzgers - Homeschooling blog from a large family mom. |
